As the camera emerges from the darkness we are brought into this bleak dimension filled with nurses, saints and madonnas where the eldest souls are parked, waiting to die. It's like death. Both peaceful and creepy, you feel calm yet uneasy. This dreamy song from an era so distant it might be unreal accompanies us on this almost religious walk, like we are pilgrims on this sinful path. The camera moves slowly trying to find some known faces but nothing. Just wondering souls lost in time. Then all of a sudden we see this monolith of a man. His golden ring a glimpse into another life, another time made of forgotten glory and power. Then we see his face. The look is the one of a man who has seen too much. Then starts talking. He painted houses. And we're back in the darkness.

I hear Robert DeNiro got snubbed out of the Golden Globes for his performance.

Can't believe Scorsese gave such a big spoiler at the beginning. XD I didn't even realize. I thought initially that Frank killed a random guy.

I cannot even express in words how good this film was. Start to finish it is hands down amazing. I personally love gangster and mob movies. My favorite movie being Goodfellas, this is now tied for my favorite movie of all time. I obviously would recommend this as a must watch.

It needs to be watched again and again. it's of course a masterpiece, but not for all audiences only in waiting for super héro craps.

Watch the Academy being, once again, self-conscious shameless spoil-sports this next February by denying both Pacino and Scorsese of two well-deserved Oscars. Hope I'm wrong.
